House District 31 Dispatch-- April 12 Updates from Rep. Julia Marvin

Hi everyone!

It's been an eventful time at the state legislature, and I'm excited to share some updates with you. First off, I'm thrilled to announce that we're nearing passing the state budget.  It's a significant milestone, ensuring our resources are directed where they're needed most to benefit all Coloradans. You can learn more about what is included here.

Some of the priorities included education, reducing auto theft and an increase for universal Pre-K. One thing I heard from many constituents was the lack of funding for our older adult services, and I along with many of my colleagues passed an amendment to make sure the money was allocated for that, which passed.

There’s less than 30 days left in the session, and a lot of bills left to be heard, which means we’re entering the era of marathon debates! We've tackled some tough bills recently, but amidst the lengthy discussions, we've managed to pass policies that will truly make a difference in people's lives. From healthcare to LGBTQ+ rights, to gun violence prevention to environmental protection, our focus remains on serving the needs of our community.

I’m especially excited about SB24-094, which will improve living conditions for renters across Colorado by closing “loopholes” that make it difficult to request repairs from landlords. I voted in support of this in Committee and also spoke on the Floor in support and talked about the issues tenants have faced in South Thornton. If the governor signs this bill, it will allow residents to get repairs needed for health and safety in a timely manner.

On the home front, I've been out and about in Thornton, attending events and meeting with constituents. Your voices and concerns are the heartbeat of our democracy, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to hear directly from you. I look forward to finishing this session strong.

In community,

Representative Julia Marvin

We're excited to introduce you to our team who are here to serve our community. Leading our efforts is our Chief of Staff, Jeremi Medina, whose experience and guidance ensure our office runs smoothly. Supporting him is our team working on policy, constituent communications, and operations. We're here to listen and assist everyone in our district.

One thing that is really important to me is fostering opportunities for young people in our community. Our office aims to provide hands-on learning experiences that stimulate creative thinking and contribute positively to our community. We see our internships as a valuable professional development opportunity, and believe in the potential of our youth to make a difference. This session and beyond, I’m dedicated to providing avenues for them to thrive and grow!

If you would like to be a guest on the House Floor, set up an appointment, or get a tour of the capitol, please contact us at 303-866-2918 or HD31.Aide@gmail.com. We can't wait to hear from you!

Last week I read the motion for the House Journal. When assigned to do this, many legislators use it as a chance to share fun facts about their district. Not only did I share that Thornton is the 6th largest city in Colorado, but I also gave a shout out to our Eastlake Turkeys.
